I mentioned before that I bought the D60 because I didn’t want to keep taking my 70-200mm off my D200.
So what lenses have stayed on the D60. Well obviously not the 50mm I have, because it is not an AF-S lens, and the D60 only autofocuses and meters with AF-S lenses.
Nikon have brought out a 50mm f1.4 AF-S lens, and it sounds like a dream lens for something that is very small and good for shooting wide open, but it’s not cheap and I am not in a hurry for it.
I have used the 18-55mm kit lens a bit, but apart from being light (it is very light) it doesn’t give me a lot of pleasure to use. I am not sure why, because it is not a bad lens.
No, the two lenses that I use on the D60 are the 12-24mm Nikon and the 60mm VR macro. The 60mm is beautifully sharp and I really enjoy using it.
But except for close shots, it neither reaches a long way, nor is it wide. So for most of the time the 12-24mm is what is on the camera, and at 24mm it is equivalent to a 36mm on a 35mm film camera - and that is a very useful lens. The lens probably weighs more than the camera body but it doesn’t make the camera seem top heavy, and with the wide barrel of the lens, it is a nice combination to use.
Here is a shot taken at 18mm, and the other was developed by converting to black and white and then lightening the yellow wavelengths and darkening the green wavelengths. Then I filtered the image to blue that leaned towards red.
