Gazebo or Folly

by David Bennett on February 28, 2009

I don’t know whether this should be called a gazebo or a folly or what, but it sits on a hill overlooking one of the lakes in Roundhay Park in Leeds, and is a magnet for people walking and wandering around the park.

I can see it once served a function because it has water fountains around its base.

I shot the image as RAW and saved that one image twice in Photoshop as PSDs with two exposure settings.

Then I used the HDR function to produce this image.

The ground slopes steeply away behind where I was standing to take the shot, and I shot at an upward angle, so the edifice tapered towards the top. I corrected the vertical perspective with the Edit > Transform > Distort tool in Photoshop.

I prefer using the Distort tool rather than the Perspective tool because I can drag the shape around much more freely. I usually toggle the grid overlay on and off as I am working to check how the verticals and horizontals line up.

The perspective appears a little distorted though
