Deconstructing A Photograph

Street Scene In Delhi

I was in Delhi a few weeks ago looking for a holdall to buy, when I came across this scene. The building in the background is a Hindu temple and there was obviously a festival going on. The stalls outside were selling festive offerings and I could see people praying.

Several people were making quick prayers and then continuing on their way. Others looked as though they had come specifically to the temple to pray.

The sunlight was very intense, so I stepped back into the shade of a storefront on the other side of the street in order to take the shot. It was a hurried shot because a lot of traffic was passing, so I had to grab a shot when the scene was unobstructed.

It is not an especially remarkable shot but when I looked at it on-screen I saw things that I had not seen when I took the photograph.

That is one of the things I love about photography.

Elements In The Scene
Here are some elements of the shot that I have described in the captions under the following photographs.
