Bibble Update and Panasonic LX3 Lens Correction

by David on July 1, 2010

This is an update to my recent article comparing Bibble 5 and Photoshop CS3.

Bibble had gone through several small updates in the past week or so. The updates are coming so fast I can hardly keep up. It seems that every time I load the application, it tells me there is a new update. I think we are on version 5.1f at the moment.

Updating to the newest version of the software is pretty painless (at least on a Mac). A small reminder pops up in the middle of the screen when you open your version of the application and clicking that takes you to the Bibble site where you can sign in and then get the update.

The process is to download the application, and put it in the applications folder where it recognises my existing user information. That’s it.

I am still getting those big spikes in CPU usage when I edit (all edits are non-destructive) images but the spikes fall off again quickly so I am pushing forward and using Bibble more.

Working With The Panasonic LX3
One of the reasons I am using Bibble is that it works with RAW files from my Panasonic LX3 whereas my version of Photoshop, whcih is CS3, does not.

I am also playing around or experimenting with the 16:9 format on the LX3 and there is a correction tool in Bibble that autocorrects the lens distortion if you check off the appropriate box in the ‘Detail’ section of the right hand panel.

Bibble recognises the camera with which the photo was taken and presents a check-box in for you to use to autocorrect barrel distortion etc. It works very well.

As I said, I have been experimenting with the LX3, which is another way of saying that the shots I have taken so far are no good. But that is me and not the camera. Call back in a few days and there should be some shots on this page.
