I shot this with a Panasonic LX3 as a RAW image, shooting at 1/20th second and f2.4 and at ISO 100. I converted the shot to a TIF file in Bibble5 and then opened the image in Photoshop.
I don’t have the latest version of Photoshop. I have Photoshop CS3, which cannot open Panasonic RAW files; hence the use of Bibble5 to convert the image to a 16-bit TIF file.
The only light reaching the small, windowless room in which this painting was hanging was from the doorway and from the small light above the painting.
Yet because most of the picture consisted of the dark color in this chiaroscuro painting, it was comparatively easy to shade out parts of the image without altering the character of the painting.
I used the Brush tool in Photoshop; picked the dominant color of the background and painted out the parts where the light had struck the edge of the frame of the painting.

I love this photo! the dark to light contrast gives a dramatic look. It’s a beautiful candid shot.

Yes, she didn’t notice me take the shot – that’s for sure.
This photo is excellent! One of my favorite forms of photography is available and low light photography. Very good job keeping steady at 1/20 of a second as well! I typically can’t shoot lower than 1/30th without REALLY concentrating on my breathing.

Image stabilization on the LX3 helps a lot
I always using prime lenses when taking picture in low light conditions. I think they give better results compared to zoom lenses even with the same aperture f number.
